For a while we had been wondering what will go on our kitchen wall above our new furniture. Will we leave it blank out of sheer laziness and refer to it as "excellent use of negative space?" We thought about big impact art pieces (although a bit beyond our budget, we love some from Geoffrey Johnson). I have always liked the concept of using everyday objects as art, and I liked the idea of displaying cutting boards in an artful way like here. After some convincing, James got "on board" with the idea.
You can buy a 1" x 4" in whatever length you need. We were able to use a leftover piece from one of our other projects which we connected with steel braces that we spray painted a copper color to match our other copper things in the kitchen. We stained the boards with black stain leftover from our kitchen furniture to match. Our only purchases were the hooks we drilled into the boards to create places to hang our cutting boards and some good wall anchors.
- Make creative use of leftover scraps from previous projects where possible!
- A level is your friend.
- This is definitely a two person job - one person must hold the boards in place while the other drills.
- For some "how-to's" on wall anchors, check out this vid or these instructions.
